My office is not a typical doctor’s office. I am located on Sarkissian Farms in southeast Tarrant County. Often children can be scared of going to see the doctor. Here the atmosphere is relaxed which is non-threatening. They can visit the animals: Dexter cattle (the smallest natural breed), horses, chickens (they can even take an egg if they want) pigs, a sheep, and donkeys as well as the farm dog and cat. Research has shown that the atmosphere of a farm is calming to children (and adults) especially when the child is suffering from anxiety or other emotional distress. As part of the visit, they can see and interact with the animals if they wish.
